Chaosfront are one of those bands whose name you’ve probably seen somewhere before, which isn’t surprising in this case, since the band was founded back in 1993 to play unconventional, pissed-off German punk.
After releasing a farewell EP in 2005, they disappeared into obscurity, from which they’ve now resurfaced with „Schädelschraube“ (Skull Screw). Chaosfront are still punk to the core and recorded their album entirely themselves in true DIY fashion, handling distribution as well.
With „Duft“ (Scent) and „Wut“ (Rage), two older songs have found their way into the modern era, fitting perfectly into the concept, which remains unchanged: raw punk with politically explicit German lyrics.
And so Chaosfront waste no time with noodling, but launch into a powerful and, at times, incredibly fast blast. They’ve abandoned subtleties or a perfect sound; here, raw power reigns supreme, delivering a kick in the pants to all those who have conformed over time.
Their unwavering stance alone commands respect, and when, as here, the execution is also spot on, the result can only be a thumbs-up—though this is unlikely to bother the band, given their self-image.
